Mu Xiaokui Boss Guide: Queen of Iron & Jade Fight
Beat Mu Xiaokui in Phantom Blade Zero: the rapier phase, the Queen of Iron and Jade unarmed phase, add control, and the punish windows that win the fight.
Mu Xiaokui, the Queen of Iron and Jade, is the hardest mandatory boss in the Village of Lu and one of the hardest fights in Phantom Blade Zero. She has two full movesets: a precise rapier phase as the Young Mistress of the Order, then an unarmed phase that summons two named adds and turns the arena into a three-body problem.
She drops nothing, which makes her the purest skill check in the game. You fight her because the story requires it, and you beat her by learning two different rhythms.

Phase one: stay close, parry the rapier, punish after Charged Pierce. Phase two: kill Iron Fist and Jade Dancer first, keep moving, and only attack Mu Xiaokui when both adds are down or she is recovering from a leap.

| Type | Mandatory story boss |
| Rewards | None |
| Phases | Two, with a full moveset change |
Phase one: Young Mistress of the Order
The first phase is a rapier duel. Mu Xiaokui closes distance in straight lines, punishes passive defence with a grab, and uses a red-flash thrust that catches anyone holding guard.
| Attack | Tell | Answer | Punish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Impaling Dive | She leaps and drives the rapier down | Dodge late, to the side | Two light attacks |
| Crescent Blades | Two curved cuts in quick succession | Parry the first, dodge the second if red | One light attack |
| Dancing Slashes | A three-hit chain with a delayed third | Parry, reset, parry; dodge the delayed finisher | One heavy attack |
| Crimson Pierce | A straight thrust with a red flash | Dodge sideways | Full Triangle string |
| Piercing Combo | A rapid multi-thrust sequence | Dodge through the last thrust, not backward | One light attack |
| Charged Pierce | She plants her feet and charges the rapier | Sidestep late, then punish the recovery | Two light attacks or one heavy |
| Impaling Grab | She lunges with an open hand | Dodge away from the hand | One light attack if she whiffs |
| Leaping Sword Slam | A jump followed by a downward slam | Dodge the impact, then punish | One heavy attack |
The phase-one trap is the Piercing Combo. It looks like a string you can parry, but the last thrust is faster than the earlier ones. Dodge the final hit and take the recovery rather than trying to parry all four.
Phase-one strategy
- Stay at close range. Her rapier has long reach, but her worst moves start when you back off. Close distance forces the grab and the dive, both of which have clear punishes.
- Punish Charged Pierce. It is the longest recovery in her kit and the safest opening.
- Do not block the Crimson Pierce. It is unblockable; dodge sideways.
- Keep Sha-Chi for the guard break. Her block is strong, and a Triangle combo opens it faster than chip damage.
- Learn the first phase before worrying about the second. You cannot practise phase two until you can reach it consistently.
Phase two: Queen of Iron and Jade
At half health, Mu Xiaokui discards the rapier and fights unarmed. She summons two adds: Iron Fist and Jade Dancer. The arena becomes a three-body fight, and the camera is the biggest enemy.
| Attack | Tell | Answer | Punish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Fist charge | The heavy add lowers its shoulder and runs | Dodge sideways, let it pass | Attack its back |
| Jade Dancer fan | The fast add spins with a fan | Parry or dodge the first spin, then disengage | One light attack |
| Queen's command | Mu Xiaokui raises a hand and the adds reposition | Move to the opposite side of the arena | Reposition while they cross |
| Unarmed combo | A short punch-kick string | Parry the first, dodge the last | One light attack |
| Leaping Slam | She jumps toward you | Dodge late, then punish the landing | One heavy attack |
The correct priority is adds first, boss second. Iron Fist and Jade Dancer do not share her health bar, but they interrupt your punishes and obscure her tells. Killing them takes time, but fighting all three at once takes more.
Phase-two strategy
- Kill Jade Dancer first. The fast add is the one that catches your recovery frames.
- Kite Iron Fist into a wall. Its charge has a long recovery; let it commit, then punish the back.
- Fight Mu Xiaokui only when the adds are down. She does not summon replacements quickly, so the window is real.
- Use wide Phantom Edges. A Destructive edge clears both adds faster than a single-target weapon.
- Do not lock onto the boss during the add phase. The lock drags your camera away from the charge you cannot see.
Recommended loadout
| Slot | Pick | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Fast One-Handed | Reliable punish in phase one |
| Weapon | Two-Handed | Add clearing in phase two |
| Phantom Edge | Destructive edge | Area damage for Iron Fist and Jade Dancer |
| Skill | Fluid Form | Converts a dodge into a punish |
| Skill | Endless Renewal Lv2 | Executions can restore Remnant Spark |
| Skill | Boundless Capacity | Extra accessory for the long fight |
Common mistakes
- Trying to parry the Crimson Pierce. Red flash means dodge.
- Fighting all three bodies in phase two. Kill the adds first.
- Staying at range in phase one. Her gap closers are stronger than her close-range mix.
- Greeding after a leap. She recovers faster than the animation suggests; one heavy is enough.
- Ignoring the lift. If you have not unlocked the Lakefield lift, you cannot reach the arena; it is west of the Puppet Testing Grounds.
