Phantom Blade Zero Skills Guide: Best Abilities & Skill Tree

All Phantom Blade Zero abilities explained: the strongest early skills, how Sha-Chi and Remnant Spark passives work, and the best order to spend Remnant Dust.

Last Updated: 2026-10-30

Phantom Blade Zero's skill tree is smaller than it first appears. Most nodes are percentage upgrades to attack, health, or Sha-Chi; the nodes that change a fight are the behaviour abilities, and those are the ones worth buying first.

You train abilities at any bell using Remnant Dust, and you can reset the whole tree for a full refund. That makes experimentation free. This guide separates the abilities that change how combat flows from the ones that only make the numbers bigger.

The short version

Buy Healing Art, Fluid Form, Redirect Force, and Steady Composure first. They fix medicine, pursuit, Sha-Chi economy, and interrupt pressure. Leave Keen Edge and Fortified Body for later; percentages do not teach a fight.

How skills work

Rule Detail
Train at Any bell
Currency Remnant Dust
Reset Full refund at any bell
Advanced nodes Require Sha-Chi Amber, Blackstone, or Memory Flowers
Power Surge L2, costs 1 Sha-Chi Essence
Blackstone bonus Each fragment permanently adds +10% Attack Power and Guard Break

Because resets are free, there is no punishment for trying a node and changing your mind. The only real cost is the time spent walking back to a bell.

The abilities that matter

Tier 1 — buy these first

Ability Effect Why it is first
Healing Art +1 medicine use More healing in every fight, no skill required
Fluid Form After a Perfect Dodge, parry, guard break, or kill, press Square or Triangle for a Quick Pursuit Turns defence into immediate pressure
Redirect Force Parry or dodge restores Sha-Chi Fixes the empty-bar death spiral
Steady Composure The next Square attack is more likely to interrupt after a dodge or parry Makes your punish actually interrupt
Boundless Capacity +1 accessory slot Compounds with every resistance and damage accessory

These five are behaviour changes. They are worth more than ten percent nodes.

Tier 2 — strong, build-dependent

Ability Effect Best for
Endless Renewal Lv1 Assassinations and executions restore HP and Sha-Chi Stealth and execution-heavy runs
Masterful Flow Weapon swap cooldown reduced by 2 seconds Two-weapon pressure builds
All or Nothing Triangle with insufficient Sha-Chi consumes the remainder for an enhanced attack Guard-break builds
Still Depths +1 maximum Remnant Spark Phantom Edge builds
Endless Renewal Lv2 Executions have a chance to restore Remnant Spark Edge-heavy builds
Breath Control Faster Sha-Chi recovery Long boss fights
Ascendance +1 maximum Sha-Chi Essence Power Surge users
Thousand-Mile Stride Sprint for 2 seconds to enter a high-speed sprint Exploration and repositioning
Shadowless Form Phantom Edge has a 15% chance to spend no Spark Edge spam builds
Blood Remedy Kills have a chance to restore medicine Long optional routes
Unyielding Will Retain Sha-Chi Essence on death Learning a hard boss

Tier 3 — percentage nodes

Ability Effect When to buy
Keen Edge (30 levels) +2% Attack Power and Guard Break per level After the behaviour nodes
Focused Mind (30 levels) +3% maximum Sha-Chi per level After Keen Edge
Fortified Body (30 levels) +3% maximum HP per level When survival is the problem

Percentage nodes are not bad; they are just interchangeable. Buy them when you have nothing behavioural left.

Best early skill order

  1. Healing Art — one extra medicine, immediately useful.
  2. Fluid Form — the pursuit attack is the core of aggressive play.
  3. Redirect Force — fixes the resource economy.
  4. Steady Composure — makes light attacks interrupt.
  5. Boundless Capacity — a second accessory slot.
  6. Endless Renewal Lv1 — if you use stealth and executions.
  7. Masterful Flow — if you swap weapons often.
  8. Keen Edge — start stacking damage once the behaviour is in place.

If a boss keeps killing you with chip damage, take Fortified Body earlier. If you keep running out of Sha-Chi, take Breath Control before Keen Edge.

Ability combos worth learning

  • Parry → Fluid Form → Triangle is the standard punish. The parry opens the guard, the pursuit closes the gap, and the Sha-Chi attack breaks the remaining guard.
  • Perfect Dodge → Steady Composure → Square interrupts hyper-armour attacks that would otherwise trade.
  • Guard break → All or Nothing → execution converts a partial bar into a finisher.
  • Execution → Endless Renewal → medicine sustains a long optional route without resting.
  • Weapon swap → Masterful Flow → second weapon bar keeps pressure without spending Sha-Chi.

Advanced node materials

Some abilities require materials beyond Remnant Dust:

  • Sha-Chi Amber — found in optional levels and bell-adjacent caches.
  • Blackstone — fragments permanently add +10% Attack Power and Guard Break, and the same material gates advanced skills.
  • Memory Flower — rare; tied to the story and hidden areas.

Because Blackstone is both a permanent stat boost and a skill currency, spend it deliberately. Do not dump every fragment into a node you will reset in ten minutes.

Respec advice

Reset at a bell when:

  • a boss demands a different defensive style,
  • you switch from a parry build to a guard-break build,
  • you have bought percentage nodes before behaviour nodes,
  • you are about to attempt the perfect ending route and need utility abilities instead of damage.

The reset refunds Remnant Dust, so the only cost is the walk back.

FAQ

What are the best skills in Phantom Blade Zero?

Healing Art, Fluid Form, Redirect Force, Steady Composure, and Boundless Capacity. They change medicine, pursuit, Sha-Chi economy, interrupt pressure, and accessory slots.

Can you respec skills?

Yes. Rest at any bell and reset the tree; Remnant Dust is refunded in full.

What is Remnant Dust?

The currency used to train abilities at bells. It is earned from combat and exploration and refunded on reset.

What is Sha-Chi Essence?

The resource spent on Power Surge (L2). Ascendance increases the maximum by one.

Are percentage skills worth it?

Eventually. Buy the behaviour abilities first; Keen Edge, Focused Mind, and Fortified Body are fillers once the core is complete.
