Phantom Blade Zero Bosses in Order: Full Boss List by Region
Every Phantom Blade Zero boss in story order, grouped by region, with rewards, ending requirements, and links to full attack-by-attack strategies.
Phantom Blade Zero runs on duels. The story route contains roughly two dozen mandatory bosses, and the optional layer adds field bosses, puppet tests, and four Acolyte encounters that decide whether the perfect ending is available. This page lists every named boss by region, in the order the story reaches them, with the reward that matters and a link to the full fight breakdown.

If you are stuck, jump straight to the boss name. If you are planning the perfect ending, do not skip the four Acolyte rows — they are missable and the game warns you only once.

How many bosses are there?
The named list above contains 37 encounters, including optional field bosses, puppet tests, and the Acolytes. The exact count depends on whether you count repeated encounters such as The Hunt and You Loong separately. For achievement purposes, the game tracks named bosses rather than every elite, so a clean run of the list above covers the boss-related achievements.
Hardest bosses, ranked
This is a difficulty ranking for a first playthrough on Normal, not a tier list of design quality.
- Mu Xiaokui — two phases, two movesets, and summoned adds that punish greed.
- Hua Qianxiao — the Bubble Shield turns the fight into a race, and the drunken strings are deliberately irregular.
- Dusk — the puppet swarm obscures the tell; the second phase splits the boss in two.
- Hua — teleport grabs and white-lotus traps punish static defence.
- The Hunt (Sixfold Scythe) — the expanded second fight is faster than the carriage version.
Peng Meng is the easiest mandatory boss once you stop standing in front of him. Zuo Shang is a tutorial and should not cost more than two attempts.
Boss rewards worth knowing
| Boss | Reward |
|---|---|
| Peng Meng | Dread Axe (Destructive Phantom Edge; also breaks chains in exploration) |
| Hua | Scarlet Wraithblade (Two-Handed weapon) |
| Hua Qianxiao | The Fanatic's Broken Blade (One-Handed weapon) |
| Dusk | Puppeteer's Bell (Summoning Phantom Edge) |
| Wan Jun | Bashpole (Destructive Phantom Edge) |
| Four Acolytes | Blazing, Thunder, Venom, and Frost Masks (perfect ending) |
| Crimson Manor hidden boss | Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang] (perfect ending) |
FAQ
How many bosses are in Phantom Blade Zero?
There are 37 named encounters in the list above, including optional bosses and repeated rivals. The mandatory story route is closer to 24.
Do I need to fight every boss?
No. Optional field bosses and puppet tests can be skipped. The four Acolytes and the Crimson Manor hidden boss are the exception if you want the perfect ending.
Which boss is first?
Zuo Shang, the Order's Shadow Sovereign, in the prologue. He is the tutorial boss and teaches the blue-flash parry.
What is the hardest boss in Phantom Blade Zero?
For most first runs, Mu Xiaokui. Her second phase changes the moveset and adds summons, so the habits from phase one stop working.
Can I come back after the final boss?
The game warns you before the final point of no return. Finish optional bosses, the Acolytes, and the Long Pillars before continuing past that warning.
