Phantom Blade Zero Endings: Perfect Ending Checklist

How Phantom Blade Zero's endings work, the perfect ending checklist, the four Acolyte masks, Crystal Puppet Eyes, Long Pillars, and the point of no return.

Last Updated: 2026-10-30

Phantom Blade Zero has multiple ending variants, and the best one is not a dialogue choice at the credits. It is assembled across the whole game from optional bosses, hidden regions, masks, pillars, serpent relics, and a five-part NPC quest. Miss one piece and the perfect ending is unavailable for that run.

This guide lists the requirements in the order you can complete them. It contains ending structure spoilers, but no story-ending description.

Spoiler scope

This page names optional bosses, regions, and the perfect ending's title. It does not describe the final cutscenes or the fate of individual characters.

How the ending system works

The game tracks side stories and NPC interactions, not a single morality meter. The director has said there are up to eight variants, and the best version is tied to completing the optional layer rather than picking a line in a final conversation.

Practically, that means:

  • Main-route completion gives you a standard ending.
  • Partial side content changes which variant you receive.
  • Full optional completion unlocks the perfect ending, titled The Final Battle.

The game warns you before the final point of no return. Once you pass that warning, you cannot go back to finish missed optional content in the same run.

Perfect ending checklist

Complete every item below before continuing past the final warning.

# Requirement Where
1 Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin] Optional Mountain of Imprisonment region
2 Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang] Hidden boss in Crimson Manor, Weeping Creek Valley
3 Four Acolyte masks Scarecrows in Village of Lu, Pangzhen, Meigu Lake, Crimson Manor
4 Meigu Lake mirror boss West side of the lake, via the Sha-Chi boat
5 Five Long Pillars Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Meigu Lake, mirror realm, finale area
6 Three serpent relics White Serpent Eye, Black Serpent Fang, Red Serpent Tongue
7 Quick Hand Zhang's relics Five appearances across five regions
8 Defeat the final boss End of the story

Step 1: both Crystal Puppet Eyes

The two eyes are in opposite corners of the optional map:

  • Yin is in the Mountain of Imprisonment, an optional region that opens late. Clear the region's boss and loot the eye before leaving.
  • Yang is held by a hidden boss in Crimson Manor, the late-game residence in Weeping Creek Valley. The manor is easy to walk past; enter it before the final chapter.

Both eyes are inserted into a statue at the Meigu Lake mirror, not carried into the finale directly. If you are missing one, the statue interaction will not complete.

Step 2: the four Acolyte masks

Four Acolyte bosses stand at scarecrows in four regions. Each drops an elemental mask, and each mask is required both for the mirror sequence and for surviving the elemental attacks inside it.

Acolyte Region Mask Element
Yanru Village of Lu Blazing Mask Fire
Leiting Pangzhen Thunder Mask Lightning
Guhe Meigu Lake Venom Mask Poison
Hansui Crimson Manor Frost Mask Ice

Equip the matching elemental resistance accessory before each fight. The masks themselves are key items, not equipment; the resistance comes from accessories and food.

These four are the most commonly missed requirement because the scarecrows look like optional training dummies. They are optional in the sense that you can skip them, but skipping them locks the perfect ending.

Step 3: the Meigu Lake mirror

With all four masks in your inventory:

  1. Go to Meigu Lake.
  2. Take the Sha-Chi boat to the west side, near the ice floats and the snow mountain.
  3. Dock and enter the mirror.
  4. Defeat the chapter-ending boss inside.
  5. Insert both Crystal Puppet Eyes into the statue.

The mirror boss is a full encounter, not a puzzle. Bring medicine and full Remnant Spark charges.

Step 4: the five Long Pillars

The Long Pillars are story-length objectives spread across five locations:

  • Weeping Creek Valley
  • Crimson Forest
  • Meigu Lake
  • the mirror realm
  • the finale area

Each pillar is completed through the region's main and optional content. If you have cleared every region boss and the mirror, you are likely done; check the journal before the final warning to confirm no pillar is listed as incomplete.

Step 5: the three serpent relics

Relic Source
White Serpent Eye Serpent-related optional content
Black Serpent Fang Serpent-related optional content
Red Serpent Tongue Serpent-related optional content

The three relics come from the serpent line of optional encounters, including Bai Chilian, the Sacrificial Serpent, in the Crimson Forest. Clear the serpent content in every region rather than only the first encounter.

Step 6: Quick Hand Zhang's relics

Quick Hand Zhang appears five times, once in each of five regions. At each appearance he asks for three relics, hidden in green-glowing chests nearby. The quest is complete only when all five appearances are finished and every set of three has been turned in.

Appearance Region
1 Weeping Creek Valley
2 Crimson Forest
3 Village of Lu
4 Pangzhen
5 Meigu Lake

The chests glow green, which distinguishes them from normal loot. If a region's Zhang appearance is gone, you likely missed it before a chapter transition; the perfect ending requires all five.

Step 7: the final battle

With the eyes inserted, the masks collected, the pillars complete, the serpent relics in hand, and Zhang's quest finished, continue past the point of no return and defeat the final boss. The ending that plays is The Final Battle.

If you get a different variant, the game does not tell you which requirement was missing. Use the checklist above and compare it against your journal before starting another run.

Missable content summary

Missable Why it is easy to lose
Crimson Manor hidden boss The manor is off the main path and closes after the final warning
Mountain of Imprisonment Optional region; no story prompt forces a visit
Four Acolytes Scarecrows look like training content
Quick Hand Zhang Region-locked appearances; chapter transitions can cut them off
Serpent relics Optional encounters, not story bosses
Long Pillars Spread across five areas, with no single quest marker

FAQ

How many endings does Phantom Blade Zero have?

The director has cited up to eight variants. The exact count depends on how the game groups side-story outcomes.

What is the perfect ending called?

The Final Battle.

Can I get the perfect ending after beating the game?

Not in the same run if you passed the final warning without the requirements. You need a new playthrough or a save from before the point of no return.

Do I need all four Acolyte masks?

Yes, for the perfect ending. The masks are required for the Meigu Lake mirror sequence.

Does difficulty affect the ending?

No. Endings are determined by side content and NPC quests, not by difficulty.

Is the perfect ending worth it?

It is the most complete version of the story and the only one that resolves the optional layer. If you enjoy the bosses, the requirements are worth the extra ten to fifteen hours.
